Best games like RuneScape for mobile and browser

Love training skills in RuneScape and want something you can play on your phone or in a browser? These are our picks for 2026. We make Legends of Taria, so it's first, and we've been straight about what each game does best.

Updated

Short answer: Legends of Taria is the best free game like RuneScape: train skills on your phone and in a browser with one account, with no membership paywall, in a world that got 21 updates from January to September 2026. Old School RuneScape is the original, but most of it needs a membership and it has no browser version. Curse of Aros's apps went more than 15 months without an update, Melvor Idle is single-player, and Albion Online is a 3D sandbox rather than a skilling game.

1. Legends of Taria

Best for: skilling anywhere, free · Platforms: iPhone, iPad, Android, web browser · Price: free

A 2D pixel art MMORPG built around what RuneScape players love most. You train a skill by doing it, and gathering feeds production: mine ore and smith armour, chop logs and fletch bows, catch and cook fish, forage herbs and brew potions, grow crops on your own farming plots. There are 14 skills to level 100, and levels 90 to 100 are a real long-term grind. Dungeon bosses guard rare drops, a collection log tracks what you've found, and player shops and a live market run the economy.

2. Old School RuneScape

Best for: the original · Platforms: desktop, iOS, Android · Price: free to play, membership for most content

Jagex's classic, based on RuneScape as it was in 2007, with over 20 skills to 99, hundreds of quests, raids and the Wilderness for PvP. Its mobile app shares your account with the desktop clients. Most skills, quests and the larger part of the world need a membership, and there's no browser version.

3. Curse of Aros

Best for: existing RuneScape-style content on phones · Platforms: iPhone, iPad, Android · Price: free, with in-app purchases including a $9.99 Game Membership

A 2D pixel art phone MMORPG with gathering and artisan skills to level 120 (Mining, Woodcutting, Fishing, Smithing, Crafting, Cooking, Alchemy and Spellbinding), Melee and Magic combat, and a Lone Wolf mode for solo play.

Keep in mind: its apps had no update on the App Store or Google Play from late June 2025 to October 2026, more than 15 months, and its wiki still lists Ranged combat, Farming and Sailing as coming soon. Legends of Taria vs Curse of Aros.

4. Melvor Idle

Best for: idle skilling · Platforms: phones and Steam · Price: free download on phones, paid on Steam

A single-player idle game inspired by RuneScape: you pick a skill and it trains while you do something else, including offline. It has over 20 skills and cloud saves across platforms. There's no shared world or other players to meet, which makes it a different kind of game from an MMORPG.

5. Albion Online

Best for: a player-made economy · Platforms: PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android · Price: free to play, optional Premium

A 3D sandbox MMORPG where almost every item is crafted by players and your gear decides your abilities. Dangerous zones have full-loot PvP, so you can lose everything you carry. Legends of Taria vs Albion Online.
